In this position you will create physical layouts, plan and elevation views, grounding analyses, conduit and cable‑trough plans, and comprehensive construction documents for utility and renewable energy interconnections. You will generate equipment specifications, bills of materials, and ensure designs comply with industry codes and standards. Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders is essential to meet project milestones and exceed client expectations.
- Perform, mentor, and direct detailed design of medium‑ to high‑voltage utility substations.
- Produce one‑line diagrams, general arrangements, elevation views, conduit and cable routing, physical layouts, ground grids, and equipment details.
- Conduct calculations for lightning protection, battery sizing, AC station service, and conduit/cable tray sizing.
- Develop technical specifications and design criteria for substation projects.
- Travel occasionally to project sites as required.
- Translate design basis memorandums or scopes of work into detailed physical designs and drawings, coordinating with civil, protection & control, and studies engineers.
- Manage multiple concurrent brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Mentor and teach junior engineers in a fast‑paced design environment.

- Hold a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma.
- Possess 5–10 years of utility substation design experience (15 kV–138 kV) with knowledge of IEEE/ANSI standards.
- Professional engineering license (P.Eng or P.L. Eng.) is a plus.
- Experience with 230 kV–500 kV substation design, MicroStation/AutoCAD, or BIM tools (Inventor, P4A, Primtech) is an asset.
