The role sits within the Design & Engineering teams of the Resilience Global Business Area, focusing on creating iconic structures and spaces that enhance public life while protecting natural resources. Working on the Energy Transition portfolio, the position contributes to climate‑resilient solutions amid increasing floods, wildfires and urbanisation. It involves delivering multidisciplinary transmission and distribution projects that support a sustainable future.
As senior leader of the GEC Energy Transition team, you will build internal and client relationships, oversee team development, and ensure high‑quality, efficient project delivery. Responsibilities include acting as Project Director for major projects, managing risk and safety, driving a ‘right‑first‑time’ quality mindset, and fostering collaborative problem‑solving across regions and partners. You will also champion innovation, monitor performance targets and budgets, and represent Arcadis in industry forums.
- Provide senior leadership for the GEC Energy Transition team, building relationships across Arcadis and with clients.
- Own team development, growth, capabilities, and ensure high‑quality, efficient project delivery.
- Act as Project Director for major projects, managing risk and safety performance including “safe by design”.
- Foster a “right first time” quality‑assurance mindset to meet client expectations and commercial goals.
- Evaluate technical competence, mentor staff, and identify training needs.
- Collaborate with Regional and GEC Directors on recruitment, performance management, and resource planning.
- Promote collaborative problem‑solving (“I can’t, but we can”) to minimise delays and costs.
- Lead communication and coordination between GEC, regional offices, and partner organisations.
- Stay current on energy‑sector technical and legislative developments; represent Arcadis at conferences and technical committees.
- Sponsor innovation initiatives and service‑delivery Communities of Practice to address complex client challenges.
- Set, monitor, and report performance targets and financial budgets for engineering teams.
- Conduct risk reviews for high‑risk, complex projects.
- Contribute to bid development, providing technical leadership for winning pursuits.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record delivering complex transmission and distribution projects, leading high‑performing multidisciplinary teams, and applying independent judgement under pressure. Required expertise includes deep knowledge of the international Energy Transition sector, legislation, safe work systems, commercial management and sustainable design. Strong leadership, communication, cultural awareness and a commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement are essential.
- Proven delivery of complex multidisciplinary transmission and distribution projects (substations, transmission lines, etc.).
- Experience leading high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary teams in design‑build or client‑side environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder‑management skills with senior leaders.
- In‑depth knowledge of international Energy Transition sector, legislation, hazards and safe work systems.
- Understanding of commercial management principles and sustainable design.
- Track record of driving quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Cultural awareness and experience managing international project teams.
