• Diagnose and repair complex CNG and diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, and advanced systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, safety inspections, and scheduled PM tasks.
• Complete accurate repair records, parts usage, and time documentation.
• Plan, schedule, and prioritize work assignments.
• Mentor apprentices and provide on‑the‑job training.
• Operate tools and equipment according to safety procedures; maintain shop tools in safe condition.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area compliant with company standards.
• Provide own tools and acquire additional tools as needed.
• Communicate effectively with all organizational levels, customers, and vendors.

Requirements

GFL Environmental is seeking a Licensed Heavy Duty Technician in Calgary, AB. The role involves safely operating, repairing, and maintaining GFL's commercial diesel and alternative fuel trucks and heavy equipment to ensure safe operation. The technician will work in varied weather conditions and must be physically capable of moderate walking, standing, lifting at least 50 lb, and pushing/pulling up to 100 lb while using personal protective equipment. Safety standards require a clean work area, proper tool maintenance, and compliance with company procedures.

• Hold a Journeyman designation (or equivalent) and a valid driver’s license; Red Seal preferred.
• Demonstrate knowledge of CVI inspections, transportation regulations, and diagnostic software (preferred).
• Be computer literate and able to learn GFL software systems.
• Exhibit self‑starter attitude, teamwork ability, attention to detail, problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures.
