The Automation Technician role involves troubleshooting, analyzing, testing, adjusting, and repairing building automation systems, as well as supporting owner/user training in commercial facilities. Success requires problem‑solving aptitude, strong time‑management, and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining customer satisfaction and business impact.
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or IT (Bachelor’s preferred)
- Minimum two years’ experience with mechanical or electrical engineering systems
- Knowledge of construction/HVAC industry, control theory, automatic temperature controls, fire alarms, building automation and other subsystems
- Experience integrating low‑voltage building subsystems using protocols such as LON or BACnet
- Understanding of HVAC&R theory and solid troubleshooting/repair skills (a plus)
- Ability to obtain 10‑hour OSHA certification (30‑hour OSHA a plus)
- Highly motivated, independent thinker, able to thrive in a fast‑paced, changing environment
- Strong multitasking, pressure handling, and deadline‑meeting abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and handheld devices (smartphones, iPads)
- Effective communication with customers and coworkers regarding inspections and service findings
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel 100% to job sites, manufacturers, and meetings
