The successful candidate will carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including necessary administrative duties, and actively fault‑find and resolve electrical issues throughout the prison. They will perform like‑for‑like replacements and minor electrical works, conducting inspections and tests in line with BS7671 and recording results. Ensuring all electrical systems are safe, compliant and functional will help maintain a secure environment for staff and residents. The role also supports the Responsible and Authorised Persons, upholds Health & Safety standards, risk assessments and safe systems of work, and may include escort duties and other tasks as required.
Applicants should hold City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation qualifications (or equivalent) and be familiar with BS7671 18th Edition, with consideration given to 17th Edition candidates who can upskill. A solid understanding of health and safety requirements, planned maintenance operations, and the Electricity at Work Regulations is essential. Excellent organisational, time‑management and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, independently at heights and use initiative are required. Desirable experience includes knowledge of fire alarm and CCTV systems, and basic IT competence.

The role follows a standard 39‑hour week, working Monday to Thursday 07:30‑16:30, Friday 07:30‑16:00, and weekends 07:45‑15:45. Employees will rotate one weekend in four, receiving an additional 15 % allowance on basic salary.
