Manages projects for translation of documents, forms, informational materials, and other written materials; develops criteria for project requirements and workflow; employs and monitors quality control of translation and integrity of intent from original documents.
Compiles and tracks feedback provided via the language access feedback form; works with state agencies to address all feedback related to language access
Compiles agencies’ monthly reports such as the contractor deficiency reports, to identify trends, and advise on solutions and improvements to the provision of language access services through contractors.
Develops and maintains a statewide database containing resources able to provide translation and interpretation services.
Provides guidance to staff on translation guidelines, translation ethics, and the role of the interpreter vs translator.
Participates in and supports statewide outreach initiatives involving sensitive cultural issues and language barriers.
Responds to public information inquiries on translation and interpretation services.
Develops best practices guidelines and quality controls for written translation and interpretation services, continuously monitors the results and makes recommendations for process adjustments.
Manages booking interpretation services for the NYS Office of Language Access meetings and events.
Assists agencies in building glossaries and style guide to maintain consistent terminology across translated materials, as well as maintenance of translation memories with contractors.
Maintains a commemoration date calendar and works with various stakeholders to create public-facing multilingual materials commemorating dates relating to language access throughout the year.
Participates in the development of contracts’ requirements to meet agencies’ needs and any other types of legislation or agreements that apply to interpretation and translation services.
Updates and expands on existing resources, such as the Person-First and Identity-First Language Glossary, the library of American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation videos, and so on.
Attends meetings with advocates, legislature, state agencies, and other stakeholders as needed.
