The role focuses on the engineering design and development of mechanical systems, structures, and components for nuclear products and facilities. Responsibilities include concept development, analysis, prototyping, testing, and commissioning to ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety requirements.
- Develop mechanical and physical concepts for nuclear safety‑focused systems and components.
- Identify, collect, and document requirements, interfaces, design basis, and applicable codes and standards.
- Perform structural, thermal, hydraulic, and scoping calculations using hand methods and analytical tools.
- Provide heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and particulate mechanics analyses for reactor designs.
- Create, test, and verify CFD models for steady‑state, transient, and design‑basis event simulations.
- Assess manufacturability, assembly, and integration considerations for SSCs.
- Prepare design documentation, including basis documents, technical reports, calculations, and drawings.
- Develop verification and validation plans for analytical tools and support tool qualification.
- Execute work according to X‑energy quality procedures and configuration management standards.
- Conduct independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Coordinate with engineering teams, partners, and suppliers to achieve design closure and assurance.
- Support team members in executing core tasks under guided supervision.

Benefits
The position is located at 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD, with a hybrid expectation of four days in the office and occasional travel of about 5%. Standard work hours are 8:00 am–5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and the salary range is $79,500–$132,500 depending on experience and location.
