This position offers the chance to provide technical leadership and authority across major HV substation and network infrastructure projects, ensuring high standards of design, safety, and reliability.

As a trusted technical expert, you will be driving engineering excellence, managing key risks, and influencing strategic decisions across the project lifecycle.

  • Oversee and review design outputs prepared by internal or external design partners, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and manage engineering and project risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to engineers, promoting technical excellence and professional growth within the team.
  • Provide early input into project scoping, feasibility, and conceptual design phases to ensure alignment with strategic, technical, and operational objectives.
  • Drive technical decision-making, design direction, and standards application across internal and external project teams.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement with internal engineering, asset management, and delivery teams to ensure technical integrity and constructability.
  • Act as technical authority for all primary engineering aspects across HV substation and network projects.
  • Support innovation, optimisation, and continuous improvement in substation design and delivery processes.

  • Extensive experience in primary design and engineering for HV substations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience working across the full project lifecycle, including concept, feasibility, and detailed design phases.
  • Strong understanding of substation systems including layout design, equipment specification, and integration with secondary systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and risk management, with the ability to influence technical and commercial outcomes at senior levels.
  • Familiarity with standards, codes, and regulatory frameworks relevant to high-voltage transmission and distribution networks.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards it highly regarded.
  • Proven capability in acting as a technical authority or leading engineering governance within major power infrastructure or utility environments.
