The Fiber Splicer plays a vital role in ensuring quality and timely delivery of telecommunications services to our customers. This position is responsible for reading and interpreting schematics and diagrams to splice, terminate, and test fiber-optic, coaxial, and copper for new construction and new service installations. The role also maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs damaged cable and related issues in the outside plant network.
Communicate the scope of work and delegate the crew so that everyone works in tandem to complete the job safely and to customer standard.
Take pictures of the job with the Company Cam app. Tag the pictures with the task ID number that is indicated on the Crew PO.
Identifying individual fiber cables at splice and node locations;
Ensuring safety measures are met up to provide a safe work zone, this includes putting out safety signage, safety cones around roadside vehicles and trailers and ensuring all crews are always wearing PPE.
Check the quality of the work completed and make sure it is always to customer standards.
Provide training to crew when necessary to ensure the tasks are completed safely and correctly.
Make sure pictures taken of final product are showing a completed quality pic for submission to customer.
Provides detailed reports of field splicing activity
Oversee crew to ensure any task assigned is being completed safely, in a timely manner and meets standard.
Preps cable and performs both fusion and mechanical splices for aerial and underground applications
Marking and/or identifying cable routes/types;
Communicate with your Field Supervisor & Manager any issues that arise, and when work is completed.
Ensures proper bonding and grounding of aerial and underground plant
Inspects and notates condition of vaults, mini-vaults, and manholes to ensure integrity of plant
Installs actives and passives (nodes, amplifiers, taps, splitters, power inserts)
Works with Construction Managers and/or OSP Engineers to perform splicing as directed
Performs all work in accordance with industry and Company standards and per all government regulations including OSHA, DOT, FCC, etc.
Participates in on-call rotation and occasionally performs work during scheduled maintenance windows at nonpeak hours

Must have adequate hearing and vision to perform duties safely and effectively.

Thorough understanding of telecommunication construction practices including:
Must be able to bend, climb, and squat to perform job duties in the field.
Strong communication skills
Ability to read and decipher prints to execute job scope accurately.
Fiber optic splice enclosure handling and maintenance practices;
High school or GED
Must be able to walk, stand, and work outdoors for extended periods in various conditions.
Ability to travel for business requirements; must possess a valid Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to perform work on active jobsite in safe, proficient manner require
Ability to represent LJA and its clients in a professional manner at all times
Must be 21 years or older to be considered for this position
Travels to customer sites, project areas, business related events
Maintain an active/valid driver’s license.
Must be willing and able to travel for project sites and team coordination
Must be able to detect odors and fumes as necessary for safe work performance.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
Must have sufficient hand and finger dexterity to safely operate tools and equipment.
