Mortenson is seeking an experienced Engineer III – Power Studies and Design to lead detailed engineering designs for high‑voltage substations, collection, and transmission projects supporting utility‑scale wind, solar, and storage generation. The role involves close collaboration with engineering and design teams to coordinate overall design packages and requirements. Primary responsibilities focus on power studies, including short‑circuit, reactive power, loss analysis using PSSE, and arc‑flash assessments with ETAP, as well as quality‑controlling the work of others. Positions are available in Minneapolis, MN; Fargo, ND; San Antonio, TX; and Denver, CO.
Collaboration with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers is required to ensure successful project delivery, verify construction aligns with design drawings, implement QA/QC processes, and develop technical requirements for procurement and construction packages. The engineer will assist field personnel in addressing unexpected site conditions and apply electrical power engineering theories while researching issues, evaluating alternatives, and presenting recommendations. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
Preferred qualifications include a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from an ABET‑accredited program and Professional Engineer (PE) certification. Candidates must be able to travel up to 10 % of the time.
