Graduate Geologist

• Updating databases with sample information
• Logging and photographing materials once received
• Movement of samples to other laboratories
• Booking in of samples
• Visual examination of core samples
• Investigating and testing construction materials, both natural such as rock, stone, slate and aggregate, and man-made such as concrete, render, plaster and mortar
• Collating and analysing test data, preparing test reports

Requirements

This is a junior position suitable for (but not restricted to) a recent graduate. Support and training will be provided by Geologists and Senior Geologists within the department. This is a temporary position lasting around six months to provide additional resource within the department.

All candidates should be able to work legally in the UK full time, it will not be possible to provide visa sponsorship for this role.

We are seeking a temporary Graduate Geologist to help with sample organisation, preparation and testing within our busy Geology and Geomaterials department. We are looking for someone to start in early January for a period of around six months.

You should have a Geology degree and ideally an interest in construction materials. It is not required that a candidate has particular experience outside of their degree.

• Training/education in Geology to degree level or equivalent
• Ability to arrange and organise own work to meet laboratory schedules
• Ability to learn new skills
