Primary duties include completing pre‑trip inspections and paperwork, maintaining an electronic driver’s log, and operating vacuum trucks, combo units, and high‑pressure pumps safely under all weather and road conditions. The operator must understand provincial and municipal road restrictions, seasonal bans, wide‑load dimensions, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods routes, as well as weigh‑scale and Transport Canada guidelines. Additional tasks involve assisting crew with rigging, using spotters when needed, interacting with customers, performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and adhering to GFL safety policies and personal protective equipment requirements.
Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada, hold a Class 3 (air‑braked) or Class 1 licence with a clean driver abstract, and be comfortable driving a manual‑transmission vehicle. A D&A clearance (12‑Panel Express to Lab) and strong English reading/writing skills are required. Flexibility for after‑hours call‑outs, willingness to travel throughout B.C. and Alberta during peak seasons, and prior experience in a similar industry are essential. Applicants must reside in the local area and be able to respond to calls without notice.
