Shift Supervisor

Description

The Shift Supervisor oversees administrative and operational security activities on a specific shift, directly managing security staff and inmate/resident interactions. Responsibilities include maintaining adequate staffing levels, stepping in during short‑staffed periods, and supporting recruiting, hiring, and orientation efforts. The role also involves advising on personnel matters and helping to manage facility resources effectively.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED and have at least three years of experience in a criminal‑justice related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity. Additional education can be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Required credentials include completion of basic correctional officer training, a state‑issued security officer commission where applicable, and a valid driver’s license, along with demonstrated knowledge of correctional management, relevant laws, and supervision practices.
