On-Call Aquatic Scientist (Environmental Scientist)

Description

• Complete field programs as a field crew lead.
• Complete daily field reports and contribute to technical reports or other writing assignments.
• Complete field programs as an environmental monitor.
• Complete quality and completeness checks on field data.
• Prioritize safety in all tasks.

Requirements

• Familiarity with biological field methods, such as electrofishing, hook and line sampling, gill netting sampling, seining, fish identification, benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, sediment sampling, stream assessment methods, and the use of tools such as backpack electrofishers, water quality meters, temperature loggers, flow meters, streamflow/discharge.
• Availability to complete field work in urban, rural and/or in remote and challenging locations.
• Strong professional communication and organizational skills.
• Experience in working with steelhead and salmon including surveys, capture and handling, tagging, and data analysis.
• The ideal candidate should have 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar field.
• Boat operation experience
• Ability to travel and support work inside and outside the state of California.
• Experience as a field crew lead.
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
• The following are assets but not required: applicable professional development skills courses electrofishing certificate; Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate; UTV training; H2S Alive; Swiftwater Rescue Training.
• Proficient with QAQC, data analysis, and reporting.
