Job Captain

Description

• Partner with Project Manager to guide designers and produce accurate construction documents and client deliverables
• Coordinate with landlords, MEP, and structural consultants to ensure timely project delivery
• Lead, mentor, and train junior designers
• Research, review, and apply CBC and IBC codes; address plan check comments
• Issue construction documents for bid and permit; perform site surveys and punch walks
• Conduct job site visits, prepare field reports, and respond to RFIs, revising drawings, bulletins, and addenda
• Review submittals and participate in construction administration

Requirements

We are seeking a Job Captain to join our New York office in a hybrid work model. The role is critical for delivering multi‑site retail projects on time, accurately, and in compliance with code, guiding design development through construction. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem‑solver who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and values design consistency, technical precision, and cross‑team coordination.

• Degree in Architecture or equivalent experience
• Experience with retail rollout or multi‑site commercial projects and site adaptation of prototypical designs
• Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam; working knowledge of SketchUp and Photoshop a plus
• Strong understanding of IBC, CBC, and ADA codes and ability to apply them to drawing sets
• Exceptional organizational, detail‑oriented, and multitasking skills under tight deadlines
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities
• Experience leading coordination with clients, consultants, and team members
• Experience delegating tasks to junior staff and conducting thorough QC reviews
• Ability to identify and implement process improvements in drawing production and team workflows
• Experience working within a multi‑office, cross‑time‑zone firm structure
