Description

The Property Accounting Assistant Controller role, based in Dallas, TX, oversees a portfolio of 20‑25 commercial retail and office assets and a team of two to three property accountants. The position ensures accurate GAAP accounting, timely financial reporting, strong internal controls and effective stakeholder collaboration.

• Lead and mentor a team of 2‑3 property accountants, handling training, performance reviews and career development.
• Manage full‑cycle GAAP accounting for a portfolio of retail and office assets, including month‑end, quarter‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Oversee journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, tenant ledger activity, CAM billing, pre‑payment settlements and capital accountability.
• Prepare and review property‑level financial statements, variance analyses, cash‑flow forecasts, workpapers and bank reconciliations.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, support external audits and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Streamline accounting processes to improve accuracy, timeliness and efficiency, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Coordinate with asset management, operations, property management and Blackstone stakeholders to meet deadlines and service level agreements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
• 7‑10+ years of accounting experience, including 4‑5 years in commercial real‑estate accounting and 3‑5 years of supervisory experience.
• Proficiency with accounting software and CAM modules, especially Yardi; advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, real‑estate accounting principles, financial reporting standards and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, oral and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
