The Business Development Manager role supports the identification and qualification of opportunities that align with KBR’s strategic plan, focusing on customer affinity, shaping requirements and positioning the company for success. The position works primarily with Defence and other Federal Government departments.
- Build and maintain market intelligence to identify entry strategies for Defence and Federal Government departments.
- Establish KBR’s brand within external networks and collaborate with Corporate Affairs to raise awareness among prospective clients and partners.
- Maintain existing client relationships and develop new contacts, especially within Defence and other Federal Government departments.
- Lead and manage pursuits through Stages 1‑2 of the Business Development Process, shaping activities and handing over to Capture Managers.
- Account for pursuit outcomes from identification to hand‑over and support the capture process until contract signing.
- Establish and qualify an opportunity pipeline, tracking it in Salesforce CRM.
- Assist clients in articulating requirements and design outcome‑focused solutions.
- Develop partnerships per the ADSS Strategy to support new business opportunities.
- Exhibit values‑based leadership and champion the KBR brand internally and externally.

Candidates must have technical tertiary qualifications or equivalent Defence experience, a strong network in Defence, Federal Government, industry or academia, and familiarity with Defence capability and sustainment projects. Advanced communication skills, a values‑based leadership style and an active Baseline Defence Security Clearance are essential, with operational ADF experience and prior Defence market business development seen as advantageous.
- Hold tertiary qualifications in technical fields or equivalent Defence/national‑security experience.
- Possess an extensive network across Defence, Federal Government, industry or academia.
- Familiarity with Defence capability and sustainment projects.
- Demonstrate highly evolved communication skills to influence stakeholders.
- Operational experience with Australian Defence Force capabilities (desirable).
- Business development experience in the Defence and national‑security market (desirable).
