Cloud Data Engineering Manager

Description

The Cloud Data Engineering Manager leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure cloud‑based data solutions within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem. The role combines hands‑on data engineering, DBA tasks, and mentorship of junior engineers while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver analytics and AI enablement. The position reports to the Director of Data Engineering & AI and is classified as full‑time exempt.

• Communicate with stakeholders and accept tasks from management and clients.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure Azure‑based data solutions.
• Develop and manage data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows using Azure Data Factory.
• Optimize data lake and data warehouse architectures with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Synapse Analytics, and SQL Server.
• Implement data ingestion frameworks for structured and unstructured sources, including APIs, on‑prem databases, IoT, Workday, and Procore.
• Enforce data governance, metadata management, and security policies via Azure Purview and SQL Server roles.
• Build real‑time and batch processing solutions using Azure Stream Analytics, Event Hubs, and Databricks.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and business users to create semantic models, Power BI datasets, and dashboards.
• Manage CI/CD pipelines for data infrastructure with Azure DevOps, ARM templates, and YAML.
• Monitor and optimize data workloads using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and SQL Profiler for performance and cost efficiency.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and bring at least seven years of data engineering experience, including three years focused on Azure technologies. Required expertise includes Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake Storage Gen2, SQL Server, T‑SQL, Power BI, and data‑governance tools such as Azure Purview. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum, Git, CI/CD, and compliance standards (GDPR/CCPA) is also essential.

• Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• Must have at least 7 years of data engineering experience, with 3+ years focused on Microsoft Azure data services.
• Demonstrated ability to build enterprise‑grade solutions on Azure (ADF, Synapse, Data Lake, Functions, Logic Apps).
• Strong T‑SQL skills, including optimized queries, stored procedures, and views.
• Expertise in data modeling best practices such as star/snowflake schemas and dimensional modeling.
• Hands‑on experience with Power Platform, especially Power BI, DAX, and M language.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, Git source control, and project management tools like Azure Boards or Jira.
• Experience with data governance, lineage, audit trails, and GDPR/CCPA compliance using Azure Purview or similar tools.
• Proficient in SQL Server database administration, indexing, query optimization, and normalization principles.
