Description

The Boilermaker will construct iron and steel structures to specifications, primarily focusing on the Heat Recovery Exchange Generator (HRSG) and other related components for a new construction project.

• Read and interpret blueprints, IFC drawings, cut sheets, and craft specifications.
• Identify required tools, safety risks, and necessary precautions for each task.
• Fabricate, cut, bend, and weld steel components per drawings and supervisor instructions.
• Rig and hoist equipment using bull rigs or cranes; follow safe rigging practices.
• Align and bolt structural steel members, verify vertical/horizontal alignment with plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels.
• Execute bolting, riveting, torque, and tension procedures correctly.
• Lead steel erection, grid layout, and rigging operations; plan work and direct helpers.
• Operate specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skidmore devices, mag drills, and Hogan drills.
• Apply basic welding techniques (MIG, stick, gas) and cutting torch safety.
• Use JLG man baskets, cranes, and perform basic equipment inspections and maintenance.
• Perform math calculations (footage, fractions) required for craft duties.

Requirements

The role requires a qualified boilermaker capable of performing all aspects of steel construction, from interpreting plans to executing safe rigging and erection, while adhering to strict safety and quality standards.

Candidates must meet demanding physical and logistical criteria, including work at heights exceeding 300 ft, ownership of required tools, reliable transportation, and successful completion of pre‑employment physical, drug screening, and motor vehicle record checks.

• Minimum 4 years experience as Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or comparable structural fitter with HRSG experience.
• Experience on gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit HRSG.
• Meet physical demands: stand, walk, bend, squat, lift up to 50 lb, work at heights >300 ft, and use fall protection.
• Wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, hearing protection, respirator, safety vest, gloves, and leather work boots.
• Possess reliable transportation and all required tools.
• Pass pre‑employment physical, drug screen, and motor vehicle record check.
• Preferred: current or former Zachry employee, NCCER Industrial Journeyman Carpenter certification, formal technical education.
