  • Identify any potential disputes, provide appropriate reports and ensure that issues are escalated appropriately
  • Working with procurement surveyors to ensure that subcontracts are placed in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Commercial assurance of the projects under management
  • Responsible for the financial management of a major, complex project or several projects from inception, tendering, negotiating and agreeing contracts and then commercially delivering Projects often worth many tens of millions of pounds.
  • Management of commercial performance, cashflow, margin management (commercial value creation) and commercial risk on allocated projects
  • Support the project delivery team in the management of the contract (including managing warranties), creating commercial value
  • As the commercial manager within a Delivery Unit operational team, support the Commercial
  • Integral part of the project senior leadership team where they hold key responsibilities associated with the commercial and financial success of each project.
  • Providing commercial assurance of project margin performance through accurate forecasting and identification of issues giving rise to commercial risk
  • Ensure appropriate management of commercial risks
  • Ensuring Balfour Beatty Group Minimum Commercial Expectations are applied consistently across projects under management
  • Understand the requirements of the customers in specific sectors, where applicable, and ensure that projects are managed commercially to satisfy those requirements.

  • Track record of managing and developing a commercial team and be themselves a Chartered Member or Fellow of the RICS, ICES or CIOB, and a mentor/role model to other commercial staff on their journey to becoming professionally qualified.
  • Proven skills in commercial awareness, client liaison, project management and team leadership. They will also have an extensive understanding of the construction industry, flexibility and a talent for negotiation.
  • Experienced individuals who have risen through the ranks of the industry and their role is broad and includes anything from risk management to procurement, financial reporting and managing the supply chain.
  • Demonstrable experience in a specific sector—such as energy, infrastructure, or construction—may be required. The individual will hold appropriate qualifications, and professional membership of the RICS, CIOB, or ICE is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to operate successfully in a commercial environment, with proven experience managing project commercial performance. A strong sense of commercial awareness is essential, particularly in assessing margin, risk, and cashflow across complex infrastructure programmes.
