Apprentices will be classified as remote workers, ideally based in the South West, with occasional travel to EDF offices in Gloucester and Heysham. All training and development are delivered virtually by QA through online tutorials, project work, labs and peer learning.
During the apprenticeship you will operate large‑scale cloud platforms, learn core DevOps practices, contribute to platform reliability through SLIs and SLOs, and gain exposure to digital tooling, automation and modern engineering approaches.
Candidates must have five GCSEs (A*–C) including English and Maths plus a Level 3 Software Apprenticeship, or a STEM A‑Level, a BTEC Diploma in IT, or two years relevant work experience, each combined with a successful QA aptitude test. Curiosity about cloud technologies, strong communication and a customer‑centric mindset are essential.
Success is personal at EDF. By joining the DevOps Engineer Apprenticeship you will help Britain achieve net zero while earning a fully funded degree and gaining hands‑on experience.
The two‑year programme offers a starting salary of £25,139 and the chance to rotate between the AWS or Azure Cloud Platform teams and the DevOps Platform team, working alongside technical leads, product owners and engineering partners within Nuclear IT Services.
The role requires Security Check (SC) clearance, typically requiring five years of UK residence in the last ten years. The remuneration package includes a market‑leading pension, electric‑vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers and experience days, and EDF is committed to diversity and inclusion.
