Senior Traffic Engineer

Description

• Coordinating with property owners, school representatives, public officials, and civic organizations regarding traffic engineering issues
• Preparing technical reports, correspondence, and formal studies
• Reviewing and approving traffic signal designs, signing and striping plans, and traffic control plans
• Supervising and coordinating work orders for the installation, removal, or replacement of traffic signs, pavement markings, protective structures, and street lighting
• Coordinating traffic engineering activities with other City departments, divisions, sections, and outside agencies
• Conducting field observations related to traffic requests, complaints, and safety concerns
• Supervising and participating in traffic and transportation studies performed by outside consultants
• Coordinating with developers and consultants on project scoping agreements and Traffic Impact Studies
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community organizations, state and local agencies, municipal management, staff, and the general public
• Overseeing the collection, tabulation, and analysis of traffic and transportation data
• Participating in special events coordination meetings and preparing traffic handling plans
• Providing staff support and participating in committees, commissions, and citizen advisory groups related to transportation and traffic matters
• Responding to public and agency inquiries and complaints related to traffic operations and safety

Requirements

The selected candidate will manage, direct, and oversee a broad range of traffic engineering activities, working closely with municipal agencies, consultants, developers, and community stakeholders. This position is intended for a seasoned professional with extensive public-agency experience who can independently manage complex traffic programs and represent traffic engineering functions at a senior level.

A well-established national engineering and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a highly experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to provide traffic engineering leadership and staff augmentation services in support of public-sector clients in California.

• Minimum of ten (10) years of professional traffic engineering experience in a public-agency environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related field
• Active registration as a Traffic Engineer in the State of California (required)
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound professional judgment, and work independently
