The role focuses on the delivery of high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) links that transport renewable generation from Scotland to England and Wales. Current programmes include Eastern Green Link 1 and 4 and Western Link 2, which form the backbone of the grid needed for decarbonisation and energy security. The PMO Lead will act as subject‑matter expert for Western Link 2 and oversee the PMO across the HVDC portfolio.
As PMO Lead you will establish and manage the HVDC PMO team, set standards, policies and assurance processes, and ensure governance, planning, risk and change management are applied consistently. You will collaborate with joint‑venture partners to define people requirements, drive adoption of digital tools such as BIM, Power BI and Primavera, and produce portfolio‑level reporting for senior leadership and regulatory submissions. Direct responsibility includes four direct reports, five indirect reports, and regular travel across the UK to support project sites.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in large‑scale, complex EPC or infrastructure projects, preferably under FIDIC or NEC4 contracts, and a formal project‑management qualification (APM, PRINCE2) or equivalent demonstrable expertise. Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams, strong knowledge of contract governance, and proficiency with digital project‑control tools are essential. Excellent communication, stakeholder influence, decision‑making and resilience in high‑pressure environments are also required.
SP Energy Networks, part of the ScottishPower Group, is investing over £10 billion in transmission projects across central and southern Scotland to deliver a Net Zero future. The PMO Lead – HVDC Projects role is based at Edinburgh Park and offers a salary of £72,400‑£90,500 plus up to 30 % annual bonus, a £450 per month car allowance and family healthcare. The position will report to grade PC19 and will be a key driver in delivering the UK’s clean‑energy transition.
