Principal Engineer - Civil & Structural - Canada

Description

• Train new hires and mentor junior staff
• Act as technical SME for civil/structural sub-disciplines within the broader ENTRUST team
• Forecast workload and assist in resourcing efforts
• Develop technical specifications for civil and structural construction tenders, evaluate bids and provide recommendations
• Travel as needed for site visits and construction support
• Support the transmission line engineering team with complex structures and foundations
• Develop and maintain industry relationships with vendors including engineering sub-contractors
• Provide technical oversight and leadership to the civil/structural design team
• Review and approve designs, perform quality checks, and complete complex technical designs
• Author technical content and provide estimating support for proposal submissions
• Act as SME to support permitting and regulatory efforts
• Track engineering progress and provide weekly updates to senior management
• Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development strategy
• Manage and lead engineering-only projects and ensure budget/schedule adherence
• Identify new clients and participate in marketing activities
• Support the substation physical layout engineering team with civil and structural components of the design including earthworks, stormwater management, structures and foundations
• Maintain deep knowledge of client and industry standards
• Promote Safety in Design principles
• Complete technical studies and prepare reports

Requirements

• 12+ years’ work experience
• Experience in the electric utility industry
• Broad depth of technical knowledge in civil and structural components for high voltage facilities
• Previous experience managing a design team
• 12+ years’ experience working in utility substations and transmission lines
• P. Eng, Registered as an active member with APEGA
• BS in Civil Engineering, or similar

• Benefits & Salary: This position pays between $140,000 and $170,000 annually and is an exempt position.
