Surface Land Administrator - Area

Description

Reporting to the Supervisor of Mineral Land Administration, you will play a key role in managing Alberta Crown leases/licenses, freehold leases, and Canadian Natural‑issued fee leases. You will ensure compliance with all ongoing lease obligations, including rental payments, expiries, continuations, offsets, and the handling of obligation or default notices.

• Input and verify mineral land data in the land system to support acquisition/disposition of Crown and Freehold leases, including issuance of leases under Canadian Natural‑owned titles.
• Manage and track area‑specific obligations in the land system, ensuring compliance and day‑to‑day administrative follow‑through.
• Conduct thorough reviews of acquisition files, meet critical deadlines, and ensure data accuracy.
• Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal teams (Exploration, Operations, Accounting) and external stakeholders such as industry partners and provincial regulatory bodies.
• Provide timely and effective responses to accounting and audit inquiries, ensuring clear communication and resolution.
• Contribute to special projects, offering administrative and analytical support to Area Negotiators and other team initiatives.

Requirements

• 5–10 years progressive experience in Mineral Land Administration, with Petroleum Land Administration Certificate or relevant post‑secondary education.
• Strong knowledge of Alberta Crown regulations and processes (ETS, continuations, surrenders, offsets, etc.).
• Experience with Alberta Land Titles systems (SPIN II), including title searches, caveat registrations and withdrawals.
• Experience administering Freehold leases and understanding lease terms and obligations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and land systems; experience with QBLM preferred.
• Highly organized, adaptable, with excellent time management, interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in a high‑volume, deadline‑driven environment.
• Practical experience with Alberta Crown leases/licenses, various Freehold lease formats, lease assignments, estate file handling, and caveat management.
• Understanding of Title, Headlease, and Sublease relationships.
