The Graduate Engineer position offers increased independence and leadership within HBK’s Engineering Track. Engineers apply judgment and problem‑solving skills to tackle complex electrical, structural, civil, and construction challenges with minimal oversight. The role also includes coaching entry‑level staff and conducting peer reviews of designs, representing a major step in professional development.
Graduate Engineers design overhead and subsurface utility systems in line with specifications, codes, and client requirements, using AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and asset‑management platforms. They analyze survey data, utility atlases, field sketches, and manufacturer datasheets, prepare technical reports, and manage the full design lifecycle from initiation to closeout. Additional duties include risk management, communicating engineering matters to project teams, performing field walk‑downs, and occasional travel (<25%).
Candidates must hold a BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program, possess 2.5+ years of relevant experience, and have a US driver’s license and work authorization. Preferred credentials include EIT certification and strong 2D CADD skills (AutoCAD or similar). The role requires the ability to work independently and in interdisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, adaptability, and persistence.
HBK offers leadership opportunities through coaching, professional growth with increased independence, and experience in peer‑review and risk‑management processes. Engineers gain field exposure via walk‑downs, stakeholder interaction, and travel for project work or development. The company provides a collaborative environment, clear career progression within the Engineering Track, a comprehensive benefits package, and support for PE licensure preparation.
