The Gardener role is to maintain building and grounds services for the safety and enjoyment of residents, visitors and colleagues. This includes upkeep of lawns, borders, flowerbeds, paths, ponds and indoor planting.
Key duties involve carrying out all gardening and grounds tasks, providing high‑quality service and advice to residents, and responding to queries from residents, colleagues or visitors. The role also supports the wider Estates team with security, maintenance, event set‑up, recycling and waste collection.
You should be able to analyse information, adapt your approach to the situation, structure tasks, pre‑empt issues and refer decisions to the line manager when appropriate. Demonstrating interest, care and reliability, you will collaborate with residents to tailor services to individual needs and promptly address health or well‑being concerns.
You will respond to site emergencies such as utility failures, extreme weather or environmental incidents, and operate Trust vehicles, including the minibus, when qualified. Strong communication, numeracy, literacy and customer service skills are essential for interacting with people of differing communication needs.
Working effectively as part of a team, you will build trusting relationships with colleagues, residents and their families, while handling potentially challenging physical or emotional situations. Essential experience includes working as a gardener, practical knowledge of machinery and chemicals, and a current clean full driving licence.
Desirable qualifications include RHS Level 2 (or equivalent), PA1 and PA6a certificates, a chainsaw certificate, and a PCV or minibus driving licence. Basic health and safety, first aid, fire procedures and manual handling training are also required.
