Some travel is required, and the position involves outdoor work in varied weather conditions.
The Crew Chief plans, organizes, and directs field surveys—including control, boundary, topographic, construction layout, and as‑built surveys—while ensuring precise data collection using total stations, GPS, and other instruments. They maintain and calibrate vehicles and surveying equipment, manage inventory, and verify data quality to produce detailed maps and reports. Safety compliance is upheld through daily Job Safety Analyses, vehicle inspections, and enforcement of company and client safety protocols.
In addition to technical duties, the Crew Chief trains and mentors crew members, assigns tasks, monitors daily production, and manages work schedules. They serve as the primary liaison with clients and project managers, addressing requirements, issues, and changes while maintaining effective communication with landowners.
Candidates must have at least three years of land‑surveying experience, proficiency with surveying instruments and software, strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and a valid driver’s license with willingness to travel. The role requires extensive physical stamina, including standing up to 10 hours, lifting 50 lb, walking up to 5 miles, traversing challenging terrain, and working in extreme temperatures.
