Senior Civil Technician

Description

The position involves leading advanced design and drafting efforts, coordinating drawing production schedules, and performing rigorous QA/QC reviews of work produced by junior technicians. You will also assist in preparing quantity take‑offs, cost estimates, and contract documents while mentoring junior staff and maintaining the company’s CAD standards and template library.

• Lead detailed engineering drawings for land development and municipal infrastructure using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Perform surface modeling, corridor design, pipe network creation, and volume calculations.
• Resolve complex grading and servicing challenges independently before consulting the Project Engineer.
• Coordinate drawing production schedules to meet project deadlines and budgets.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of junior technicians' drawings for compliance with Ecora standards and municipal bylaws.
• Assist in preparing quantity take‑offs, cost estimates, and contract documents following MMCD standards.
• Mentor junior staff on Civil 3D best practices and drafting standards.
• Troubleshoot software issues and maintain/improve CAD standards and template library.
• Liaise with external utility providers, municipalities, and clients to resolve technical design queries.

Requirements

Ecora is seeking a highly experienced Senior Civil Technician (T5) to act as a technical lead within the Civil Engineering team. In this role you will take complex municipal and land development projects from conceptual design through to detailed construction drawings with minimal supervision, serving as a key bridge between the engineering team and junior technical staff. You will ensure high standards of quality control, design accuracy, and efficiency in Civil 3D workflows.

Ideal candidates hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and are registered (or eligible for registration) as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with ASTTBC. They bring eight or more years of progressive experience in municipal infrastructure or land development consulting, demonstrate expert‑level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and strong knowledge of MMCD and local design guidelines, and may have experience with vehicle tracking software and stormwater modeling.

• Hold a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and be a registered (or eligible) AScT with ASTTBC.
• Possess 8+ years of progressive experience in municipal infrastructure or land development consulting.
• Demonstrate expert‑level proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D styles, data shortcuts, assemblies, and networks.
• Maintain strong knowledge of MMCD and local municipal design guidelines.
• Experience with vehicle tracking software (e.g., AutoTurn) and stormwater modeling is an asset.
