HIL Developer - Microgrid & DER Control Platforms

Design and develop Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing environments for microgrid and DER control platforms using RTDS and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure accurate emulation of real-world operational conditions.
Maintain robust and consistent HIL test coverage across all critical control functions
Develop comprehensive test plans, configure HIL test benches, and implement automated testing procedures
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of HIL testing methodologies and supporting infrastructure
Foster strong collaboration between engineering and quality assurance teams
Uphold stringent documentation standards to ensure complete traceability of all testing activities
Analyze test results, identify anomalies, and support root cause analysis and resolution initiatives
Thoroughly document processes, configurations, and outcomes to ensure full traceability and compliance with regulatory standards

Integrate and validate embedded control systems with simulated power networks utilizing advanced HIL technologies

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in embedded systems or control systems testing, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 2 years’ experience standard power systems drawings, including single line diagrams and ladder diagrams.
Demonstrated experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB for test automation and data analysis
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols, such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850

Ability to develop and execute test cases for scenarios like islanding detection and black start

Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar scripting and modeling applications
Prior experience with HIL, CHIL, and PHIL simulation of microgrids and DERs using RTDS
Familiarity with microgrid and DER standards from IEEE, NEC, and other relevant standards associations
Experience using HIL platforms, including RTDS, Typhoon HIL, or OPAL-RT
Minimum 2 years’ experience with HIL testing tools and real-time simulation environments for microgrids (such as RTDS, Typhoon HIL, OPAL-RT)
Analytical and debugging skills
Knowledge of power systems, distributed energy resources (DERs), and microgrid control logic
Knowledge of test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration
Ability to work in an agile development environment
Minimum 2 years’ experience in automating tests and analyzing HIL results to validate system performance.
Minimum 2 years’ experience configuring and troubleshooting microgrid controls and communications in simulated environments.
Communication and documentation abilities
Familiarity with cybersecurity standards for control systems
