The Senior Materials Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of materials engineering, testing, and quality control for major roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects.
The role ensures that all construction materials and processes comply with project specifications, international standards, and client requirements (MOT/RCRC).
The incumbent will provide expert guidance on materials selection, testing procedures, and quality verification, supporting the supervision team in achieving the highest standards of durability, safety, and performance.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure materials are stored, handled, and applied in accordance with standards and approved methods.
- Review and validate all laboratory test results, ensuring timely reporting and resolution of non-conformities.
- Prepare materials evaluation reports, test summaries, and compliance assessments for management and client review.
- Review and approve materials submittals, mix designs, and technical data sheets for compliance with project specifications and standards (AASHTO, ASTM, BS, SASO, etc.).
- Track and report on materials performance, rejections, and trend analyses to support continuous quality improvement.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, consultants, and testing laboratories to resolve materials-related technical queries.
- Coordinate with the Quality Manager and discipline engineers to ensure consistent quality control across all construction packages.
- Maintain detailed records of material approvals, testing reports, and site inspections.
- Provide technical support to site teams in resolving materials-related issues or discrepancies.
- Coordinate with laboratories and suppliers for prequalification and quality certification of materials.
- Verify the accuracy, calibration, and performance of laboratory equipment.
- Supervise and monitor materials testing activities, including soil, aggregate, asphalt, concrete, steel, and chemical tests.
- Evaluate sources of materials (quarries, asphalt plants, concrete batching plants) and ensure proper approvals before production.
- Support the project’s technical team in reviewing contractor submissions related to construction methodologies and material specifications.
- Identify non-conforming materials or work and recommend corrective actions to maintain project quality.
- Ensure that all field and laboratory testing complies with approved Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and QA/QC procedures.
