What you would be doing

- Participate in routine QA/QC of environmental datasets to ensure quality and consistency; and
- Write or apply Python scripts, SQL queries, and/or VBA tools to automate GIS/database workflows;
- Maintain and troubleshoot relational databases using platforms such as MS Access, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and/or EQuIS;
- Help assess internal GIS needs across the office and propose enhancements or training opportunities;
- Work with staff to understand project-specific GIS and data needs, and recommend efficient solutions;
- Assist with collecting and managing GPS data using commercial-grade GPS equipment (e.g., EOS Arrow Gold);
- Assist in the creation, maintenance, and use of geodatabases for environmental projects;
- Use Survey123, Field Maps, or other ESRI field apps for field data form creation and QA/QC support;
- Create professional, publication-ready maps, dashboards, web maps, and data visualizations;
- Support legacy workflows (figure prep, Excel data formatting, cross-tool compatibility).
- Use ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Online (AGOL) to support routine and advanced mapping tasks;

- Portfolio or examples of past GIS/data visualization work (optional but encouraged)
- Familiarity with ESRI field apps (e.g., Survey123, Field Maps, Collector)
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles and map layout design. (required)
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills. (required)
- Experience working with relational databases (e.g., MS Access, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, EQuIS) (required)
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and work collaboratively on project teams. (required)
- Experience with data QA/QC, data automation, or repeatable workflows in GIS or databases
- Familiarity with ESRI software, including:
- Experience building or maintaining geodatabases
- ArcGIS Pro
- Proficiency with Python, SQL, or other programming languages (e.g., VBA, JavaScript, R, etc.)
- ArcGIS Online (AGOL)
- Experience collecting GPS field data using commercial units (e.g., Trimble, EOS ArrowGold)
- Exposure to web map development (e.g., using AGOL, Geocortex, or similar tools)
- Currently registered in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in a relevant technical discipline (geography, environmental science, geology, engineering, GIS) or a related field. (required)
- Minimum: $22.02/hour / Maximum: $30.84/hour (Oakland, CA, Walnut Creek, CA)
- Minimum: $20.11/hour / Maximum: $28.15/hour (Reno, NV)
- Minimum: $21.07/hour / Maximum: $29.62/hour (Davis, CA)
