The Category Manager reports to the Director of Procurement and will be an integral part of the Supply Chain Team. The role will manage a portfolio of direct or indirect spend categories with an annual spend of approximately $50‑$100 million. The manager will work cross‑functionally to devise buying strategies, identify cost‑out opportunities, and improve procurement processes, acting as the subject‑matter expert and lead negotiator for the assigned categories. Supplier relationships, including quarterly business reviews, will be owned and maintained. The position requires office‑based work with occasional onsite presence when not traveling.
The Category Manager works both independently and with key stakeholders to create and implement supply‑chain strategies. They critically analyze spend down to SKU level, set cost‑out targets, and communicate status to leadership. As the category SME, they compile market intelligence, lead RFP processes, qualify suppliers, develop contracts, and negotiate terms. They serve as the liaison with suppliers, conduct quarterly business reviews, track contract performance, and manage improvement opportunities. Additionally, they identify critical supply‑chain risks and develop mitigation strategies.
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, finance, or supply chain and has at least five years of supply‑chain experience, preferably in procurement. They possess a broad understanding of demand planning, buying, inventory management, and S&OP, and demonstrate strong negotiation skills and a record of favorable contract outcomes. Experience building and maintaining supplier relationships, critical thinking, and the ability to analyze large data sets with analytics tools are required. Excellent executive‑level communication skills and proficiency with ERP and procurement software (e.g., JDE, SAP, Coupa) are essential. The role requires up to 20 % domestic travel.
Preferred qualifications include an MBA or procurement certifications such as CSCP, CPIM, or CPSM, strong business acumen, and experience in infrastructure construction, manufacturing, or subcontracting.
