Description

Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) supports the nation’s most critical facilities and partners with the federal government to modernize military installations and other agency facilities, making them smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.

The role requires painting in booths, on the floor, or on products using ladders and scaffolds, both indoors and outdoors. Tasks include interpreting drawings and specifications, preparing surfaces, mixing paint to the correct viscosity, erecting canvas shelters, spraying primers and coatings, inspecting finish quality, and maintaining spray equipment.

• Spray and finish paint on complex product units, systems, and data plates.
• Interpret drawings, customer orders, process sheets, and paint manufacturer instructions.
• Clean and prepare surfaces, including chip, slag, and masking.
• Mix paints to proper viscosity, adding epoxy powders and thinners as needed.
• Erect canvas shelters and operate ladders/scaffolds for indoor and outdoor painting.
• Apply primers, enamels, epoxies, and protective coatings using spray equipment.
• Inspect finished surfaces for runs, shadows, coverage, and correct paint thickness; perform touch‑ups.
• Maintain and clean spray guns, paint systems, and related tools.
• Perform moderate physical effort handling light to average weight materials and equipment.
• Follow safety precautions and work in environments with exposure to paint fumes, dust, and rust.

Requirements

Required qualifications include 1–2 years of industrial or automotive painting experience, ability to perform moderate physical effort, adherence to safety precautions, and tolerance for exposure to paint fumes and other disagreeable conditions. Preferred qualifications are experience with MIL‑Specs and basic math and reading skills for process sheets.

Benefits

Compensation is $28.80 per hour plus a $0.70 second‑shift differential, increasing to $30.32 after twelve months. The schedule is the second shift (3 pm – 11:30 pm). Benefits begin on the first day, relocation assistance may be available, and the position is union‑represented.
