The Virtual Product Development (VPD) Systems & Platforms team seeks a Linux HPC System Administrator to manage on‑premise and cloud‑based high‑performance computing infrastructure. This role involves configuring, deploying, and maintaining hardware, software, storage, and network components, as well as providing user support and ensuring security compliance. The position is based full‑time in Mossville, IL, and is part of a globally distributed team focused on operational excellence.

Configure, deploy, and maintain Linux cluster hardware, HPC software, storage, and network infrastructure.
Administer hosting and management systems supporting HPC operations.
Provide technical support and troubleshoot end‑user issues related to HPC hardware and solver applications.
Conduct job performance and application testing; assist with HPC operational and strategic projects.
Participate in user group forums and ensure compliance with enterprise IT security controls.

Understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and certifications related to cloud computing.
Working knowledge of distributed/parallel file systems and storage appliances (Isilon, NetApp, Qumulo).
Experience with HPC deployment and middleware technologies (Bright Cluster Manager, Altair PBS Pro, SLURM, Torque, MOAB).

Benefits

Caterpillar offers a total compensation package that includes a salary range of $89,210‑$133,810, incentive bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits suite covering health, retirement, and professional development.
