The EHS Specialist role supports Valmont’s overall environmental, health, and safety (EHS) strategy by driving continuous improvement and best practices across the plant. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and matrixed to the Regional Safety Manager, the specialist has no direct reports but works closely with site and regional leadership.
Key duties include supporting the development, maintenance, and enhancement of EHS initiatives, aligning site activities with Valmont’s enterprise‑wide EHS Playbook, and rapidly identifying sub‑standard performance using leading and lagging indicators. The specialist also assists production employees in hazard identification and control, participates in safety committees, and aids the incident investigation process to implement corrective actions.
Additional responsibilities involve acting as a liaison among regional management, risk management, and HR; developing emergency management and business continuity programs; and delivering training and mentorship to strengthen EHS compliance across the organization. Successful candidates must complete the Valmont EHS Specialist curriculum within three months of hire.
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree with at least three years of EHS experience (or five years of equivalent experience). Preferred qualifications include prior work with multinational companies, experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs or ISO 45001/14001, and familiarity with enterprise‑wide database systems. The role requires strong decision‑making skills, the ability to lead cross‑functional teams, and a commitment to Valmont’s core values.
The position operates primarily in a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to dirt, grease, fumes, noise, and temperature extremes, requiring personal protective equipment such as safety glasses and hard hats. Office work also occurs, demanding proper ergonomic practices and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
Valmont offers a comprehensive Total Wellbeing benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, life and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, and various wellness programs. The company is an equal‑opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities.
