  • Read and follow Departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Parasitology microscopic analysis and identification with trichrome and concentrate preparations.
  • Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform maintenance on departmental equipment.
  • Judge acceptability of quality control results and participate in proficiency testing.
  • Assist in research projects as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining year-round inspection readiness.
  • Communicate sample issues within and outside the department to ensure proper client communication.
  • Maintain adequate supplies in the department.
  • Participate in the training of new employees.
  • Collaborate with other departmental personnel and the Product Development Department.
  • Review performed work for accuracy before releasing it to clients.
  • Assist in the evaluation and development of new procedures.
  • Apply value statements and quality principles to work.
  • Assist supervisors in the daily operation of the department.

  • Passage of a colorblind test for the Microbiology position.
  • For an MT degree, 6 years of clinical laboratory training or experience, with 2 years in the area of supervision.
  • Proficiency in clinical microbiology testing/assays, including blood, wound, and urine cultures.
  • For an MS degree, 4 years of clinical laboratory training or experience, with 2 years in the area of supervision.
  • Experience in molecular biology, PCR, and DNA extraction.
  • Experience with microbial identification techniques such as bench biochemicals, Vitek, and MALDI-ToF.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine issues and train others on sample quantification.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the performance, interpretation, and troubleshooting of assays.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biological or Chemical Science, or a degree in Medical Technology.
  • For a BS degree, 7 years of clinical laboratory training or experience, with 2 years in the area of supervision.
  • Strong supervisory skills including mentoring, training, and leadership potential.
