Design, develop, analyze, and test new and existing electrical products to specifications provided by the customer and/or marketing. Designs are hardware or firmware based and can utilize analog, digital, or mixed signal technologies.
Directs the investigation, analysis, and approval of suppliers/vendors, new materials, components, technology, bills of material, and engineering practices.
Responsible that products are developed on schedule, at cost, meeting the design specification while meeting the proper third party listing. Requires interfacing with product managers, project engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, laboratory engineers and FCC/ISED engineers.
Interfaces with and provides technical support to production personnel for the release of new manufacturing test programs, procedures, and equipment, and in design-for-manufacturability.
Responsible for ancillary New Product Development tasks including competitive product reverse engineering, breadboarding, circuit simulation, PCB layout, electronic component and assembly documentation, and lab guidance of product testing through third party submittals.
Interfaces with Canadian Standards Association, Underwriters Laboratories, ACB (Fcc/ISED) and other Nationally Recognized Test Labs’ personnel to ensure design for compliance.

Must be an effective listener, able to maintain focus to extract necessary information and validate understanding of the information.
Working knowledge of component level circuit design. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze product failures. Ability to analyze test results and apply these results to product performance, design-for-manufacturability, and third-party compliance requirements. Working knowledge of component operation including physics. Organizational awareness.
Strong computer skills, proficient with word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, e-mail and meeting management software.
Must be proficient with engineering design and engineering project management software.
Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
1 - 3 years of relevant experience in a new product design.
Expert at interpreting test, diagnostic, and development equipment readings. Proficiency with Altium, SPICE simulation, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project Management software (like Smartsheet).
Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering or Electrical Technology.
Ability to use internet and web-based resources efficiently and effectively.
Requires strong organizational and time management skills, close attention to detail and be able to effectively handle multiple priorities.
Able to read and understand simple C code instructions as used in embedded applications. Able to program and interface with microcontrollers using their Integrated Development Environment.
