Interns will support project managers and field leads on natural resources surveys, including wetland delineations, wildlife, avian, and botanical assessments. Office responsibilities include data cleanup, reporting, and other tasks that aid the Natural Resources and Environmental Planning teams. Fieldwork may involve extended hikes, either independently or with colleagues, across office locations and nearby states. All work must adhere to SWCA’s safety program and promptly address any hazards.
Candidates should be junior or senior undergraduates, recent graduates (within 12 months of May 1 2026), or Master’s students pursuing an environmental‑related degree; Ph.D. candidates are not eligible. Required experience includes natural resources fieldwork gained through coursework, projects, internships, or volunteer work. Applicants must be able to travel and mobilize for two‑week field assignments, be proficient in Microsoft Office, possess strong communication and detail‑oriented skills, and be willing to learn new survey techniques while maintaining a flexible schedule.
The role may require up to 50‑75% fieldwork, involving extensive travel, long‑hour walks, and the ability to carry equipment weighing up to 40 lb. Interns must work safely in all weather conditions, execute tasks effectively, and integrate SWCA’s safety policies into their daily workflow.
Preferred skills include familiarity with GPS devices, digital data collection, and mapping software such as ArcGIS, as well as technical writing and species identification experience.
