The Minneapolis Roofing Plant Electrical Technician coordinates and safely performs maintenance electrical functions to ensure plant equipment operates at maximum levels and to minimize unscheduled interruptions. This role also trains, coaches, and counsels others on electrical maintenance procedures and best practices, requiring strong knowledge of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and process control systems. The position reports to the plant Maintenance Leader.
The technician must comply with all Lock‑Tag‑Try (LTT) procedures, fix and report unsafe work conditions, and notify Minneapolis Leadership in the event of any accident, near miss, or injury. Responsibilities include overseeing shift activities, downtime, and shop work related to electrical requests, instructing craftsmen in proper installation and repair techniques, and planning preventive maintenance strategies to reduce equipment downtime.
Key duties involve completing training plans based on test scores, supporting in‑house and contracted electrical installations or repairs, and maintaining electrical controls software. The role includes installing, repairing, or replacing motors, drives, starters, relays, wiring, conduit, lighting, and other electrical components, while keeping PLC, drive, and PanelView programs current and updating electrical drawings as changes occur.
The technician also fabricates, installs, tests, and repairs mechanical and electrical equipment, assists engineers in developing technical solutions, and keeps the department leader apprised of equipment conditions to avoid major production downtime. Additional responsibilities include recommending training for craftsmen, making timely decisions during emergencies, maintaining spare parts inventories, creating troubleshooting manuals, mentoring apprentices, and reinforcing safety habits.
Active participation in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is required, including contributing to the PM pillar, partnering with AM activity team members to achieve TPM goals, maintaining 5S improvements, and performing TPM duties aimed at zero losses, zero defects, and zero injuries.
Job requirements emphasize demonstrated quality craftsmanship, the ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision, a strong safety mindset, and solid mechanical, electrical, and controls aptitude with strong troubleshooting skills. Familiarity with reliable work practices and SAP interface is preferred.
Minimum qualifications include demonstrated leadership in professional, service, or social organizations, willingness and flexibility to relocate, and the ability to work first, second, or third shift as directed. Candidates should have manufacturing maintenance experience or have completed an Advanced Manufacturing program from an accredited school.
Computer and software competencies include proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and preferred experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Education requirements call for a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with an associate's degree or higher preferred. Applicants must have at least four years of relevant maintenance experience, preferably as an Electrical or Multi‑Trade Technician, and experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
Essential physical requirements include the ability to routinely lift 50 lb unaided and 80 lb with assistance, work at heights and in confined spaces, stand or walk on concrete for 8‑12‑hour shifts, and ascend/descend stairs and ladders. Workers must use personal protective equipment, perform housekeeping duties, and be able to work overtime in extreme hot or cold conditions.
