What you would be doing

  • Contribute to business development and proposal efforts by estimating scopes, reviewing technical approaches, and preparing fee estimates
  • Participate in design reviews and perform quality assurance on deliverables (by yourself and less-experienced staff)
  • Stay current in structural codes, standards, and best practices, and help implement improvements in team workflows
  • Conduct structural inspections, assessments, and condition studies, especially in historic buildings or renovations
  • Prepare computation reports, structural drawings, details, and specifications using industry-standard tools
  • Mentor junior engineers and technically support their development in structural methods, modeling, and detailing
  • Lead structural analysis and design tasks for building projects, including new additions, renovations, and remodels
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP, and civil teams to ensure integration of structural systems with other disciplines
  • Assist with construction-phase support, including reviewing shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and occasional site visits

  • 10 - 15 years of structural engineering experience, especially in building design
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g. ETABS, RAM, RISA) and design codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, masonry)
  • Active membership in structural or preservation organizations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (or ability to obtain)
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities, ensuring timely and quality delivery
  • Experience with complex structural systems (e.g., long spans, lateral systems, connection design)
  • Experience working with AutoCAD or Revit for structural modeling and detailing
  • Strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to coordinate multi-discipline design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Familiarity with building material testing, condition assessment, or structural rehabilitation techniques
  • Historic preservation experience, especially rehabilitation of existing structures
  • Excellent communication skills for client/consultant collaboration, report writing, and internal reviews
  • Exposure to adaptive reuse projects or integration of new systems into old structures
