Design Engineers provide professional civil engineering services, including planning, design, specifications, reports, construction observation, and project management. They supervise CADD Technicians, Graduate Engineers, and Field Technicians, maintain frequent communication with supervisors and managers, and attend company, project, and client meetings. The position involves business development duties such as proposal preparation and interview participation, and may evolve into Project Manager or Client Manager responsibilities with budget oversight. Engineers also represent the owner on‑site during construction, conduct public involvement meetings, make independent judgments, adhere to company CADD and safety policies, and travel for out‑of‑town assignments, often working overtime during the construction season.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and preferably a Professional Engineer license in Minnesota or North Dakota (or be able to obtain one within 6‑12 months). At least five years of highway/roadway design experience is preferred, along with knowledge of MNDOT or NDDOT processes. Employees must adhere to scheduled and required work hours and be capable of performing essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations available as needed.
