Senior Environmental Sustainability Manager - Technical Lead

Delivers construction, civil engineering, property development, fit‑out, rail and FM services across UK & Ireland.
Lead environmental team for rail project, ensuring compliance, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
Ensure third-party resources are positioned in supportive roles where they add value without driving critical processes.
Mentor and develop BAM colleagues, creating clear progression and recognition pathways.
Act as the primary environmental lead, and EPI reporting.
Ensure timely, accurate, and transparent reporting of environmental data through the EPI Data Manager and Data Admin.
Track and present performance against KPIs, identifying risks, opportunities, and lessons learned.
Ensure legal compliance and alignment with Network Rail standards (e.g. NR/L2/ENV/015) and client requirements.
Lead and manage the environment team covering multiple route sections.
Represent BAM in Alliance and client meetings, building trusted relationships with the PMO, Functional Director, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Promote continuous improvement in waste management and pollution prevention.
Provide line management to Environment Managers, Advisors, Apprentices, and Data staff.
Champion the environmental agenda across project teams, ensuring visibility and influence in decision-making.
Oversee and provide technical guidance on major environmental incidents and investigations.
Work closely with the Environmental Compliance Manager to ensure successful ESMP sign-off and implementation, robust monitoring, inspections, and audits.

The role requires a minimum site presence of four days a week, based out of offices in the Huddersfield area.
Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation, client standards, and compliance frameworks.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Rail
NEC3 contract management
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with credibility to influence senior leadership.
Senior-level experience managing environmental teams on major infrastructure – preferably rail projects
CEnv and MISEP (or equivalent)
Proven leadership skills, with ability to motivate and develop colleagues at all levels.
