The Fabric Engineer is responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving the building fabric – walls, floors, ceilings, fixtures, doors, windows and finishes – to ensure safety, presentation, regulatory compliance and suitability for use. The role covers both reactive urgent repairs and planned preventative maintenance, and may include overseeing small installations, refurbishments and contractor work.
Applicants must have proven experience in building fabric maintenance, competence across multiple trades such as carpentry, joinery, plastering, painting/decorating and tiling, strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills, solid knowledge of health & safety, fire safety and building regulations, and excellent oral and written communication. Self‑motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Desirable qualifications include NVQ/City & Guilds trade certifications, specialist certifications (e.g., fire‑door, asbestos awareness), experience with CAFM systems, prior facilities‑management or regulated‑environment experience, contractor supervision experience, and a full UK driving licence.
