Project Engineer, Electrical Engineering - Thermal

Description

The role is responsible for electrical engineering and construction of cutting‑edge thermal generation projects such as natural‑gas combustion turbines and combined‑cycle plants. The electrical systems include large turbine generators, isophase, MV/LV auxiliary systems, step‑up transformers, switchyards, and high‑voltage transmission interconnections. The engineer will support internal and external engineering efforts to deliver final detailed design packages.

• Assist in developing project‑specific construction, engineering, and equipment specifications.
• Analyze conceptual designs to ensure compliance with owner and interconnection requirements and support RFQ specs.
• Prepare and validate electrical energy calculations.
• Conduct design reviews of electrical drawings for balance of plant, switchyard, and transmission line.
• Define scope of electrical system studies and review results for accuracy and compliance.
• Track design schedules, update stakeholders, and meet critical electrical engineering deadlines.
• Organize and transfer as‑built documentation, including drawings, schematics, BOMs, studies, and relay settings, at project close‑out.
• Coordinate lessons learned with operations engineering to improve future designs and specifications.
• Stay current with industry technology through training and conferences.
• Facilitate information flow between equipment suppliers, construction contractors, and the engineer of record.
• Review competitive bids for owner‑procured electrical material and support purchasing and supplier management.
• Monitor construction progress remotely and on‑site, addressing field issues.
• Attend on‑site meetings with electrical contractors and utility coordination meetings.
• Perform factory inspections and witness acceptance testing for major equipment.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems.
• Possess 3+ years of relevant experience, including internships.
• Knowledge of power systems, HV/MV infrastructure, and industry standards and codes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Visio with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25 % and hold a valid driver’s license.
• Eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field (preferred).
• EIT license (preferred).
• Experience with ETAP, CYMCAP, EasyPower, or similar modeling software (preferred).
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently across teams.
• Direct experience with thermal energy projects and turbine‑generator suppliers.

Benefits

The base salary ranges from $97,000 to $120,000 with an annual bonus target of 20‑30 %. Total compensation may also include eligibility for bonus programs, medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and other benefits.
