Responsible for the daily operations and functionality of L&D tools/solutions (e.g., LMS, project tracking, and all design solution applications). Acts as strategic partner to the business to assess learning needs and develop appropriate solutions. Point of Contact and manages improvement and troubleshooting activities for all L&D technology solutions. Responsible for developing learning solutions for all American Water employees including office and field employees. Preparing employees with the knowledge and skills to conduct their work assignments safely and efficiently is the goal.

  • Designs, develops, and implements learning solutions leveraging various adult learning methodologies, including formal and informal training such as: hands-on, instructor led, virtual instructor-led, eLearning, mobile, audio/video, leaders as teachers, and social learning, with a primary focus on eLearning.
  • Supports new LMS software releases.
  • Develops, delivers, and supports post-implementation refresher educational programs and materials.
  • Delivers train the trainer sessions as required.
  • Maps learning opportunities to the competency model and career paths and develops learning journeys.
  • Monitors trends and researches education/training related to emerging technologies, techniques and methodologies and shares information with colleagues to ensure ongoing improvement of educational programs, learning management systems, and other educational tools.
  • Works collaboratively with business leaders and subject matter experts to identify opportunities and recommend solutions to address learning needs.
  • Provides thorough input to post implementation and support plans. Provides input for learning assessments and tracks proficiency gains of employees using higher-level learning evaluation models (I.e. Kirkpatrick's five levels of evaluation).
  • Proactively researches opportunities to optimize existing technology with a focus on efficiencies and employee experience.
  • Support the development and analysis in measuring the effectiveness of our key learning programs.
  • Leads requirements gathering sessions and manages project tasks and deliverables.

The learning solution methods will vary based on employee needs. A combination of instructor-led, virtual instructor- led, e-Learning, job aids, electronic job aids, or support videos may be required. American Water is growing rapidly in terms of its use of technology and the Learning and Development team needs to keep pace by quickly developing easily accessible solutions at the right time.

Nimble learning

  • Ability to deliver just in time learning solutions for fast-paced application development to include mobile applications Proficient in use of MS Office Suite including Office 365 Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • 5+ years’ experience in Learning and Development, designing SCORM compliant eLearning and/or instructor led training.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of educational authoring tools, such as Captivate, Camtasia, Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Vyond, Wellsaid.
  • Adult learning and curriculum development certification preferred.
  • Manages effectively to timelines and due dates
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of undergraduate education and specific relatable work experience in a relevant field such as instructional design or education/learning, human resource development, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
  • Possesses strong knowledge of technology solutions.
  • General knowledge of the production of multimedia education such as edit and produce audio and video for e-learning, support videos and other web based materials.
  • Must possess advanced knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design methodology (ADDIE or 6Ds).
  • Ability to develop creative effective instructional design programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS)
