SUE Analyst

Description

The SUE Analyst plans, conducts, and directs work on one or more subsurface utility engineering (SUE) projects. This self‑starter role requires a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and the ability to train and mentor others while supporting the Geomatics department to accurately locate, identify, and assess subsurface utilities, reducing utility conflicts and enhancing project safety.

• Operate company equipment to locate and identify subsurface utilities.
• Lead and mentor SUE field teams, providing training and guidance.
• Manage field operations, including utility designation, vacuum excavation, mapping, and data collection.
• Collaborate with project managers to develop work plans, schedules, and budgets.
• Deploy advanced geophysical tools (EM, GPR) to accurately locate and map underground utilities.
• Use ground‑penetrating radar and other surface methods to detect specific underground facilities.
• Coordinate with clients, utility owners, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to meet project requirements.
• Implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of SUE data.
• Visit project sites to verify limits, interpret utility records, survey drawings, and highway design plans.
• Collect field data and deliver it to CAD for further processing.
• Provide QA/QC oversight for all SUE field activities.
• Maintain proficiency with innovative SUE technologies and techniques.
• Assist with operation and maintenance of vacuum excavation trucks.
• Enforce company safety policies, protocols, and procedures on site.
• Represent McAdams professionally with proper conduct and appearance.

Requirements

The position involves primarily outdoor work in varying environmental conditions, requiring long periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lb regularly and up to 100 lb occasionally. Travel to sites, weekend or overtime work, and overnight stays may be required, with reasonable accommodations provided when needed.

• Hold a High School diploma or GED with 5+ years of progressive SUE experience.
• Possess at least 2 years of survey experience.
• Proficient with EM, survey, and GPR locating equipment.
• Strong ability to read utility as‑built and schematic records.
• Working knowledge of conventional and GPS survey equipment.
• Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and pass a drug test.
• Willing to travel to sites and operate vacuum excavation trucks.
• Detail‑oriented, analytical, problem‑solver with strong technical and behavioral traits.
