Overview

Design and coordinate building electrical systems as an Electrical Engineer in Training.

Tasks

-Performs and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software. -Coordination with the lead engineer to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer electrical systems or products for a project, including power, lighting, fire alarm, and communications. -Documentation of design decisions and calculations performed -Assisting in the design and coordination of projects of varying complexity/size. -Participation in constructability reviews. -Assist with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule. -Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors, providing good knowledge of the designed Electrical systems -Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis and basic cost estimating. -Contribution to the development of new standards, workflows, and specifications for the electrical group. -Development of a design from preliminary concepts through the construction document stage with the guidance of a registered P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. -Assist in the preparation and coordination of project specifications.

What You Bring

-Advanced oral and written communication skills. -2+ years of experience in the Buildings Industry is an asset -Security clearance eligibility is a must for this position. Candidate must be open to a security clearance check. Individuals who have been in Canada for 10+ continuous years are preferred. Individuals with close ties to sanctioned states will be scrutinized. -Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering / Integrated Engineering / Engineering Physics OR Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology -EIT, AScT, P.Eng., P.L.Eng. eligibility an asset -Working knowledge and application of the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes is an asset -Presentation and interview skills. -Ability to apply or delegate designs for engineers and technologists/technicians utilizing CAD or Revit. -Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD. -Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule -Understanding of Revit/BIM technologies in development of models of building electrical systems is an asset -Understanding and experience with all phases of project document production and the drawings and specifications is an asset -Familiarity with power studies including short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies is an asset -Working knowledge and experience with electrical systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards is an asset -Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought -Ideally a new EIT / AScT working towards ability to function as a full P.Eng / P.L.Eng. -Understanding of Electrical Engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others is essential -Constant updating of one’s knowledge in Electrical Engineering, Contract Management, and Building codes, as well as the tools to deliver on these
