Quantity Surveyor

Description

Main purpose of job: Managing and controlling costs throughout the lifecycle of a construction project, ensuring financial efficiency and compliance with contractual obligations.

• Maintain accurate records of costs, contracts and communications.
• Assess and manage variations with clients
• Ensure contractual compliance, risk mitigation, opportunities and accurate reporting.
• Prepare interim valuations and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts.
• Maintain QS site files, correspondence and relevant documentation to high standards.
• Administer building contracts (JCT / NEC), ensuring compliance with terms and conditions.
• Maintain schedules of variations, valuations and budgets.
• Attend project meetings and contribute as required.
• Work independently or with a Senior Quantity Surveyor ensuring accurate financial control and timely reporting.
• Certify payments to Subcontractors and assess any relevant change.
• Negotiate and agree changes with subcontractors and clients.
• Manage procurement of sub-contractors, and monthly assessments in relation to change control.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and company standards.
• Produce cost reports and advise on financial performance.

Requirements

Essential - HND/ Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar

Desired - Chartered RICS member

• Consolidated planning – the ability to consolidate and document the fundamental components of a change initiative: scope; schedule; resource requirements; budgets; risks; opportunities and issues; and quality requirements.
• Governance arrangements – the ability to establish and maintain governance structures that define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for governance and delivery of change initiatives and align with organisational practice.
• Budgeting and cost control – the ability to develop and agree budgets for change initiatives, and to control forecast and actual costs against the budget.
• Reviews – the ability to establish and manage reviews at appropriate points, during and after change initiatives, which will inform governance of the change initiatives, by providing evaluations of progress, methodologies, and continuing relevance.
• Change control – the ability to establish protocols to alter the scope of change initiatives, implementing the protocols when necessary, and updating configuration documentation, including contracts to develop, maintain and apply quality management processes for change initiative activities and outputs.
• Clients, stakeholders, and communications management – the ability to manage stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
• Team management – the ability to select, develop and manage teams.
