  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform concept level design of treatment works and analyze hydrologic and hydraulic models and computations.
  • Design of wastewater treatment methods or creating solutions for transport when product is used for reclaimed water purposes.
  • Develop advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to reduce the volume and toxicity of pollutants, account for the negative environmental impact of municipal facilities, industrial facilities, power plants, and transportation vehicles/systems, and allow for greater use of water resources.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level threat mitigation activities.
  • Ensure that the planning and management of available wastewater is adequately leveraged, treated, improved upon and remains safe for various end uses – irrigation, commercial (reclaimed), and/or industrial.
  • Remain current in latest wastewater engineering strategies.
  • Provide guidance with data collection efforts for collecting, identifying, and compiling data from samples of wastewater, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing mid-level projects including project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and task completion.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, clean-up, or address water/wastewater/stormwater issues or problems.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, models, cross-sections, and other illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Coordinate, review and approve infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and work is compliant with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams to execute mid-level projects including, budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Perform high-level professional wastewater engineering work and conduct investigations, analysis, and design relating to waste disposal, pollution control and treatment activities to avert the contamination and degradation of water resources and determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in wastewater treatment or conveyance engineering.
  • Proficient ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Proficient knowledge of water/wastewater/water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to environmental permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • PMP certification or other credentials related to project management
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Adept at coordinating technical matters with public and private groups.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Wastewater or closely related discipline.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
